Review the compressed air supply before selecting a generator

Check inlet pressure, available flow and air treatment alongside the new gas generation equipment.

01Treat feed air as part of the system

A PSA nitrogen generator uses compressed air as its feedstock. Air supply planning therefore requires more than the compressor's nameplate capacity. The flow available for an additional generator depends on existing production demand, pressure losses through dryers and filters, and the operating schedule. Share the compressor model, current pressure, dryer and filter configuration, and recent maintenance and fault records during the project discussion.

02Check the inlet against the selected equipment

Use the selected generator's technical documentation to establish inlet air requirements. A specification for a different brand or model should not be transferred without verification. Review moisture control, filter condition, reliable condensate drainage and the effect of other loads on the proposed connection point. Where necessary, measure at the actual generator inlet, distinguishing those conditions from measurements at the compressor-station outlet. These records help determine whether to use the existing air source, add treatment or provide a separate source.

  • Record the location and time of inlet pressure, temperature and air-quality measurements.
  • Include air-source configuration and maintenance responsibilities in the project interface schedule.
