01Set a common basis for the calculation
Begin a comparison of cylinders, liquid supply and on-site generation with the same gas quality, delivery pressure and annual usable volume. A gas unit price and an equipment purchase price each cover only part of the cost. Check actual invoices for purchased-gas transport, rental and related charges. For on-site generation, include the generator, feed-air equipment, treatment, installation and associated site work.
02Place operating assumptions beside the result
Estimate operating costs from the applicable electricity tariff, demand profile and equipment data, including maintenance, consumables and backup supply arrangements. Atlas Copco's literature also identifies initial investment, maintenance and energy as elements of lifecycle cost. Compare current demand, planned demand and a low-load scenario, and identify whether each input is measured, quoted or estimated. Payback depends on these assumptions. A fixed payback period should not be promised before the inputs are established, and another customer's or manufacturer's savings claim should not be applied directly.
- Retain invoices, gas-use records, quotation revisions and the calculation date.
- Show the total cost, cost per unit of usable gas and the principal assumptions together.
