Why gas-equipment maintenance isolation involves more than electricity

Stored pressure, remote commands and connected supplies remain relevant after power is off.

01Identify every energy source

Review electricity, compressed gas, pressurized vessels, mechanical motion and connected backup supplies. Some sections can remain pressurized after the motor stops. Remote or automatic commands may also restart equipment unless controlled by the approved isolation system.

02Plan the work boundary

Qualified personnel should use the site's lockout and isolation procedure with the equipment documentation. Identify the exact components to be worked on and the sources that can reach them. A control-panel stop command is not equivalent to verified energy isolation.

03Control restoration

Before return to service, follow the prescribed checks, clearances and communication process. Confirm that temporary isolations and work-related changes are accounted for. The maintenance record should identify the approved restoration and functional verification, not merely state power restored.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
