Aquaculture oxygen selection should start with dissolved-oxygen behaviour

Generator power is not a measure of oxygen reaching the animals.

01Describe the biological load

Provide stock, biomass, feeding pattern, water temperature and measured dissolved-oxygen trends to the aquaculture designer. Peak oxygen demand can differ from the daily average. Include credible interruptions and the consequences of losing the normal supply.

02Include the transfer system

Oxygen produced at the generator must reach the water through suitable equipment. Transfer performance depends on the installation and operating conditions. Obtain the required gas flow, concentration and pressure from the complete oxygenation design rather than sizing only from an electrical power figure.

03Verify both systems

Accept the generator against its gas-delivery specification and assess water conditions through the farm's monitoring plan. Test the approved backup arrangements. A satisfactory oxygen concentration at the package outlet does not prove that every tank or pond has adequate dissolved oxygen.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
