Turning a soldering-atmosphere requirement into a nitrogen duty

The furnace oxygen target and the gas-inlet specification are different inputs.

01Start with the equipment process

Obtain the soldering equipment supplier's atmosphere requirements and operating data. Furnace oxygen levels depend on gas distribution, openings, board movement and extraction as well as the supplied nitrogen. Do not assume that inlet purity directly equals the atmosphere in every zone.

02Record realistic production

Include line speed, product mix, startup, standby and changeovers. Measure or obtain nitrogen use for the required atmosphere under those conditions. Note whether several lines restart together and whether the supply needs to cover that peak.

03Validate the interfaces

Agree supply flow, pressure and quality at the furnace connection, then check the furnace atmosphere and soldering result through the process validation. Keeping these tests separate helps identify whether an issue lies in gas delivery or furnace operating conditions.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
