Air treatment / ENGINEERING NOTE

Feed-air quality needs more detail than clean air

Describe contamination limits at the generator inlet, with their verification basis.

01Separate the contaminants

Particles, liquid water, water vapour, oil aerosol and oil vapour are different treatment problems. A single filter does not necessarily control them all. Obtain the generator's inlet requirements and identify which treatment stage addresses each relevant contaminant.

02Specify the operating envelope

Record air temperature, pressure and maximum flow together with the quality specification. Dryer and filter performance depends on those conditions. Confirm whether a quoted air-quality classification applies to the installed system at the stated connection or only to a component test.

03Keep evidence current

Prepare a simple matrix linking each requirement to a measurement, inspection or supplier document. Repeat the appropriate checks after major compressor or treatment changes. A historic air-quality certificate does not establish current conditions at a newly added generator branch.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
