Choosing refrigerated or desiccant air drying

Start with the required pressure dew point and the coldest downstream conditions.

01Define the moisture limit

The generator's inlet requirement and the lowest expected pipeline temperature establish the drying task. Refrigerated and desiccant dryers provide different drying capabilities and operating characteristics. Do not select a technology from its name without checking the required pressure dew point.

02Compare complete duties

Use the same maximum inlet temperature, pressure and flow for both proposals. Include pressure loss, regeneration demand, electrical auxiliaries and downstream filtration. For a desiccant design, clarify how regeneration is controlled and how that consumption enters the compressor capacity calculation.

03Verify during difficult conditions

Observe outlet dew point during high moisture load and realistic demand changes. Confirm the measurement pressure and sensor location. A dryer that performs well on a cool, lightly loaded day still needs evidence that it can meet the agreed summer or peak-load duty.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
