Troubleshooting / ENGINEERING NOTE

When two oxygen analysers disagree

First align sample conditions, measurement range and timing.

01Make the comparison fair

Confirm both instruments' ranges, calibration status, units and concentration basis. Identify whether they sample the same location at the same time. Different sample pressure or a long transport delay can create an apparent disagreement during a changing process.

02Review the sample arrangements

Check materials, connection integrity, flow and stabilization with the relevant suppliers. Trace-oxygen measurements are particularly sensitive to sample contamination. A portable analyser connected temporarily should not automatically override an installed instrument without checking its setup.

03Resolve with a defined method

Use an agreed reference or verification plan and preserve all results, including unfavourable ones. Decide how process-quality release is managed while the issue remains unresolved. After correction, document which cause was established and how the installed readings were confirmed.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
