How analyser response affects a quality interlock

Include transport, conditioning and instrument delay in the response discussion.

01Separate the delays

Gas takes time to travel from the process connection through tubing and conditioning equipment to the sensor. The instrument then has its own response. A fast sensor specification does not mean the installed system detects a process change equally quickly.

02Connect response to the process

Identify where gas can travel while a quality change is being detected and acted upon. Provide the control designer with sample-system details and the downstream volume and flow conditions. Alarm and diversion design should consider the complete detection and action chain.

03Verify the installed behaviour

Use an approved functional test to observe the system response and record the conditions. Include communication and valve-action timing where relevant. Changes to sample tubing or flow should be reviewed because they can alter a previously validated response.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
