Selecting the range of a residual-oxygen analyser

Choose an instrument for the acceptance limit and the expected operating states.

01Start at the decision limit

An instrument used to release nitrogen to production needs suitable performance near the specified residual-oxygen threshold. Compare accuracy, repeatability, detection capability and environmental limits at that range. A display with many decimal places does not establish measurement capability.

02Consider startup and upset conditions

The sample may contain substantially more oxygen during startup or a fault than during normal production. Ask about over-range behaviour, recovery and protection requirements. Confirm that the instrument can return reliably to the intended measuring range after those conditions.

03Review the installed system

Include sample pressure, flow, materials, response time and calibration method in selection. Check the interface to quality controls and alarms. The correct sensor in an unsuitable sample arrangement can still produce misleading release decisions.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
