Choosing calibration gas for an oxygen analyser

Use a traceable reference suitable for the instrument and measuring range.

01Follow the instrument method

The manufacturer specifies how the analyser is checked or calibrated and which reference conditions are suitable. Select reference gas composition and concentration accordingly. A convenient cylinder with an approximate oxygen value is not necessarily an adequate standard.

02Review the certificate and handling

Confirm the certified value, uncertainty, validity period and relevant cylinder identification. Include regulators and connections compatible with the gas and required measurement quality. Trace-gas work is especially sensitive to contamination introduced by unsuitable handling arrangements.

03Keep the result interpretable

Record reference-gas identity, instrument condition, observed values and any adjustment. Distinguish a verification from a calibration that changes the instrument. If the result is unacceptable, investigate the reference and sample arrangement as well as the analyser before releasing it back to duty.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
