Air receivers, nitrogen buffers and product storage have different jobs

Locate each vessel before deciding what capacity it should provide.

01Separate the functions

An air receiver can moderate compressed-air demand upstream of the separator. A product buffer can smooth cyclic production or supply. A downstream storage vessel may serve a process peak or backup objective. Similar-looking vessels can therefore have very different design duties.

02Describe the demand event

For a short production peak, record its flow, duration and minimum acceptable delivery pressure. Storage must be evaluated using the usable pressure range and replenishment capability. Vessel geometric volume alone does not tell you how much usable gas the event can receive.

03Check the complete assembly

Review pressure ratings, gas-service compatibility, isolation, instrumentation and protective devices with qualified designers. Oxygen-service vessels need the appropriate cleanliness and materials controls. Establish inspection and documentation responsibilities before delivery rather than treating the vessel as an untracked accessory.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
