01Understand the dependence
Thermal flow measurement relies on heat transfer associated with the flowing gas. Different gases and mixtures can produce different responses. A meter configured for air should not automatically be treated as accurate for nitrogen-rich or oxygen-rich product gas.
02Check the manufacturer configuration
Record the calibrated gas, expected composition, pressure, temperature and flow range. Ask whether a supported gas model or a different calibration is required. A generic correction factor may not be adequate across the entire operating range.
03Verify the installed measurement
Confirm orientation, straight-run or installation requirements and signal scaling. If the meter supports acceptance or billing, establish suitable traceable evidence for the actual duty. Keep configuration changes in the instrument history so later energy or capacity calculations remain reproducible.
