Why tiny sample leaks matter in trace-oxygen measurement

The sample reaching the sensor must represent the gas in the pipe.

01Recognize contamination sensitivity

When nitrogen contains very little oxygen, a small contribution from surrounding air can materially affect the result. Connections, seals and pressure conditions along the sample path deserve attention. A high displayed oxygen value is not automatically evidence that the generator output changed.

02Review the sample path

Document the sample point, tubing, fittings, pressure reduction and discharge arrangement. Use components and procedures suitable for the required measurement. Minimize unverified temporary connections and account for the time needed to clear the sample path.

03Compare under controlled conditions

If readings are disputed, use an agreed reference method at a defined location and retain pressure and flow data. Have qualified personnel investigate sample integrity. Do not modify protective gas controls merely because one portable instrument produces a different initial reading.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
