Comparing energy per cubic metre of delivered gas

The electricity boundary and product-gas denominator must match.

01Define the station boundary

List the included compressors, dryers, separators, cooling auxiliaries and boosters. If one proposal excludes a major consumer, its specific-energy figure cannot be compared directly with a complete-station figure. State whether standby and regeneration consumption are included.

02Count accepted delivered gas

Use gas delivered at the agreed quality and pressure, on a stated volume-reference basis. Rejected startup gas, analyser sampling and leaks may affect the relationship between generated and useful output. Align the electricity and flow measurement periods.

03Compare representative duty

Evaluate a realistic load profile, including low-demand hours, rather than only a rated point. Keep inlet conditions and quality targets with the result. An energy figure without these conditions is a useful question for the supplier, not sufficient evidence for a savings commitment.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
