Managing calibration for oxygen and dew-point instruments

Keep calibration status connected to the decisions each instrument supports.

01Define the instrument role

Distinguish a process-quality release analyser from a trend-only indicator or an ambient safety monitor. Each has different consequences if its reading is wrong. Use the manufacturer, quality system and applicable requirements to establish the calibration or verification plan.

02Keep the relevant records

Record instrument identity, range, method, reference standards, results and any adjustment. Include sample-system condition when it affects the measurement. A calibration label does not reveal whether the instrument's installed sampling arrangement is suitable.

03Review out-of-tolerance findings

If a check finds unacceptable error, assess which earlier quality decisions may have been affected. Document corrective action and confirm the installed system before resuming its intended role. Do not simply replace the date sticker and discard the failed result.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
