Inputs for a nitrogen-distribution pipe-sizing review

Use flow, distance and acceptable loss together.

01Describe the network duty

Provide a diagram with branch lengths, elevation changes, fittings and simultaneous demand. Identify normal and peak flows at each use point. A pipe selected for the sum of nominal machine capacities may be very different from one sized for a measured operating schedule.

02State the pressure budget

Give the available upstream pressure and the minimum required flowing pressure at each critical outlet. Include filters, regulators, flexible connections and other local restrictions. Confirm whether all flow values refer to standard conditions or actual line conditions.

03Verify the critical event

After installation, compare upstream and use-point pressures during the agreed coincident peak. If losses exceed the design expectation, investigate the actual route and component settings. A static no-flow pressure test demonstrates a different condition from operational pressure delivery.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
