Selecting nitrogen purity from the process requirement

Turn a quality label into measurable impurity limits.

01Ask what can cause failure

The useful question is which gas constituents affect the process result. Residual oxygen may dominate one application, while moisture, particles or hydrocarbons matter in another. A nitrogen percentage on its own can leave important requirements unspecified.

02Define where and how

State the quality limits at an identified measurement point, with pressure, sample conditioning and test method. Distinguish a generator outlet requirement from a package or furnace atmosphere result. Those measurements answer different questions and should not be substituted for each other.

03Avoid unsupported over-specification

If production has no validated limit, arrange a discussion with the process owner and a suitable test plan. Compare the system implications of the plausible requirements without presenting them as established facts. Final equipment selection should use the accepted process window and its documented margin.

Apply this guidance with the equipment manual, actual site conditions and applicable requirements. Design, operation and maintenance decisions need appropriately qualified personnel. Confirmed product documents govern a specific equipment supply.
